Cooking always leads to chopping, slicing, dicing, etc. All of that can get quite frustrating and tedious if you are using tired, worn-out tools.
Until this Christmas, I was making due mostly with the knives given to me as a wedding present in 1992. Needless to say, they were dull and lifeless. I was more fond of my food processor than my knives for most projects. But all of that has changed with my new Ginsu 7108 Chikara 8-Piece Stainless-Steel Knife Set with Bamboo Block. I chuckled a little when I saw “Ginsu” and immediately remembered the old 1978 commercial. But, as usual, Brian did excellent research and these babies are solid, sharp and ready for anything.
The set includes a 3-1/2-inch paring, 5-inch utility, 5-inch serrated, 7-inch santoku, and an 8-inch chef’s. My favorite is the 7-inch santoku. It makes quick work of just about anything I’ve thrown at it. All of the knives work and feel great.
Nothing kills the cooking instinct like bad tools. These knives were my one of my favorite gifts this Christmas and my be THE favorite as I keep appreciating them on a daily basis.
If you are among the superstitious, do note that it is considered very bad luck to give someone a knife without exchanging money. The friendship will be cut by the knife. How to deal with such a dilemma? Gift the knife along with a penny, nickel or dime in the box so that the recipient can give back the coin.
I’m still using the knives given to us as a wedding present in 1971. I never have to worry about cutting myself. I’d consider new ones, even with the ever present threat of self mutilation and the fact that I try to avoid cooking, if the price was right. How much are they?
So far I haven’t injured myself, but the threat is definitely there with these 🙂 They are $69.99 at Amazon. Click on the orange link in my review to get more info or order a set.
