Watermelon Drop

Watermelon Drops

Sip, sip, sip…ahhh.

I’ve always believed that a cool bite of juicy watermelon can refresh the soul on a hot day. But what about sipping that watermelon wonderfulness?

Yep, it’s lovely.

Lots of recipes for watermelon drinks (agua frescas, mojitos, martinis, etc)  include quite a bit of sugar and play with ingredients such as lime juice, mint, rosemary, etc.

I chose a pretty purest version of the watermelon beverage and don’t plan to change a thing next time.

I shared my watermelon drink with adults and kids, so the pitcher full of watermelon goodness was “clean.” The kids enjoyed the watermelon juice. The adults enjoyed their refreshing Watermelon Drops.  The vodka was added by the glass.

Ingredients List

  • 2 personal seedless watermelons, or 1 large seedless watermelon
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • ice
  • vodka

Method

Remove watermelon from rind and cut into large chunks.

In a blender, puree 1/4 of watermelon pieces with a handful of ice and 1/4 of the sugar.

Pour mixture into a strainer and catch juices in a punch bowl or a glass pitcher.

Repeat steps until all watermelon is used and strained.

Add a bit more ice to the pitcher to keep cold or store in the refrigerator.

Serve watermelon juice as is over ice for the kiddos.

Or for cocktails, drop a few ice cubes into a short glass, pour in 1 to 2 shots of chilled vodka then pour in watermelon juice to fill the glass. Stir and serve.
